Halal Audit, Ensuring Product Halalness Through 5 Assessment Aspects

In an effort to ensure the halalness of pharmaceutical products in Indonesia, the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal or BPJPH) appointed the Halal Inspection Agency (Lembaga Pemeriksa Halal or LPH), which is an institution that carries out inspection and/or testing activities regarding product halalness.

The Halal Inspection Agency is tasked with conducting inspections, audits, and laboratory testing (if necessary) regarding product halalness. This appointment is part of the implementation of the Decree of the Head of the Agency No. 20 of 2023 concerning Guidelines for the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH), which serves as a reference in the implementation of the assurance system and the execution of halal audits.

The products audited were non-psychotropic potent drugs (obat keras), with the entire production process carried out in accordance with applicable halal provisions and principles.

On October 15, 2025, a halal inspection audit was carried out by halal auditor Mrs. Femi Mardiani as the Lead Halal Auditor from LPPOM MUI, along with the halal supervisor from the toll manufacturing company conducting contract manufacturing at PT Phapros Tbk, namely PT Guardian Pharmatama.

What is a Halal Audit? A halal audit is a systematic inspection process by the Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) to ensure the implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) in accordance with regulations.

Recently, LPPOM MUI conducted an audit at PT Phapros Tbk on non-psychotropic potent drug products resulting from toll manufacturing, namely Pantoprazole Sodium and Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate.

Both function as stomach acid reducers and anti-inflammatory drugs. Additionally, PT Phapros Tbk also produces Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate 125 mg & 500 mg for generic products and Phadilon 125 mg & 500 mg for branded products, as well as Pantoprazole Sodium 40 mg for generic products and also branded under the name Panto-Gas 40 mg, which have obtained halal certificates, thus demonstrating the company's commitment to ensuring the halalness of the pharmaceutical products it produces.

What is Audited in a Halal Audit? In a halal audit, auditors assess five main aspects of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH) which demonstrate the company's commitment to maintaining product halalness.

  1. Commitment & Responsibility Assessing halal policy, the formation of a halal management team, and routine training for employees. PT Phapros shows full support by providing resources and annual training, including for toll manufacturing products.
  2. Materials Covering the inspection of raw materials, additives, processing aids, and packaging. All materials have been verified as halal and free from haram elements, with supporting documents such as halal certificates or pork-free statements.
  3. Halal Product Process Assessing production procedures, washing, storage, and distribution. All PT Phapros facilities are ensured to be pork-free, and cleaning processes are carried out periodically with validated microbiological test results.
  4. Product Emphasizing traceability of materials and production processes. Every product can be traced to its origin to ensure compliance with halal regulations.
  5. Monitoring & Evaluation Includes internal audits and annual management reviews to ensure SJPH implementation runs effectively and is continuously improved.

Due to the consistent implementation of the halal system, LPH LPPOM MUI gave the audit result a "Very Satisfactory" status. This assessment shows that all aspects of production, materials, facilities, and halal documentation have met the highest standards according to national halal audit guidelines.

Based on field observation results using interview methods and document assessment, a result with the predicate "Very Satisfactory" was obtained, where no critical weaknesses were found nor were any other improvements needed.

This predicate is concrete evidence of the company's commitment to maintaining the quality, safety, and halalness of pharmaceutical products in Indonesia. Through consistent and integrated implementation of SJPH, PT Phapros Tbk not only complies with regulations but also strengthens its position as an ethical, transparent, and globally competitive pharmaceutical industry player.

As a manufacturing company that has fulfilled all aspects of SJPH, PT Phapros Tbk shows itself as a trusted toll manufacturing partner open to halal production cooperation with various other parties. The implementation of the five main aspects of SJPH serves as a strong foundation in maintaining the integrity of the production process, product safety, and compliance with national halal regulations.

With the mandatory halal certification that will come into full effect according to the regulatory implementation timeline in Indonesia, PT Phapros Tbk states its readiness to continue fulfilling and adapting to applicable regulations. This commitment is expected not only to maintain legal compliance but also to become a strategy for regeneration and increasing company turnover through the expansion of halal toll manufacturing cooperation opportunities in the future.
