Certification in Environmental Management Systems

Phapros has implemented an integrated environmental management system with other management systems and has consistently implemented continual improvement    efforts to achieve the Vision and mission of the company. The company's environmental management system refers to the ISO 14001:2004 environmental management system (EMS). Certification has been carried out by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) certification body since 10 August 2000. Currently, the migration process to EMS ISO 14001: 2015 is underway. The scope of certification covers all aspects of production and its supporters (Manufacture of Pharmaceutical Product) assessed in PROPER.

Environmental Activities

The pharmaceutical industry requires considerable raw materials in the production process. We realize the real impact of our industrial activities is the emergence of liquid waste, solid waste, conventional gas emissions, and greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, the Company strives to utilize resources efficiently. This is manifested in energy and water efficiency programs, reduction and utilization of B3 waste, waste reduction and utilization, reduction of water pollution load, and reduction of burden air pollution.

Efforts to Reduce Energy Consumption

Phapros has a high commitment to energy efficiency. This is demonstrated by the inclusion of energy efficiency in the Management Policy. The Company has an energy-saving program that is carried out continuously. The program includes socialization with all employees to make efficiency and innovation. The programs implemented are always evaluated and made improvements for the better (continuous improvement).

The activities carried out by the company in carrying out energy efficiency focus on energy consumption in process space conditioning and operation of production equipment that significantly consumes energy. However, energy savings are also made in other areas. Energy-saving activities that have been carried out by the company can save costs of up to IDR1.3 billion/year.

Waste Reduction and Utilization Program

Phapros applies the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) in the company environment in terms of energy, resources, and waste/waste treatment programs both liquid and solid. Regarding products that do not meet specifications (rejected), Phapros does not reuse or recycle products by very strict regulations related to health and the life of the user of the product (patient). But in other areas, the principle is still applied.

One of the efforts applied by the company is to reduce paper usage. At Phapros, the development of web-based electronic information and communication systems have been carried out so that there is a reduction in paper usage.  The processing of waste or waste carried out by Phapros is not limited to waste generated in the production process, but Phapros also carries out the responsibility of producers (Extended Producers Responsibility) on expired products that are processed responsibly.   Recall of products that have passed their expiration date prevents abuse of expired drugs and is also one of the company's approaches to always maintain product quality.  Since 2011 we have had special procedures related to the withdrawal and destruction of expired products which are continuously reviewed in the company's quality management. The procedure also refers to the applicable regulations in Indonesia.

Water Efficiency Program

Phapros is constantly working on using various approaches to use water efficiently. One of them is by reducing the use of clean water through wastewater and rainwater reuse activities according to needs and available technology. Every wastewater is strived to always meet the established wastewater quality standards. In addition, the company also carries out maintenance of water distribution pipes to prevent leakage.

PThe Company conducts two innovation activities to streamline water usage. The first innovation, is the manufacture of HPLC vial washing machines, from the previous manual, so that water use is more controlled.  Making this vial washing machine can reduce water usage by up to 30% of previous water needs. The second innovation activity is to modify the vacuum blazer machine (product packaging leak test) with the PIAB vacuum. After this modification, water consumption dropped significantly by 80%.

Water Retrieval by Source

Phapros uses PDAMs and artesian wells. The company also utilizes recycled water derived from RO1 and RO2 wastewater, Ampoule, and Vial flushing wastewater, and ablution wastewater.

Program for Reduction, Utilization of B3 Waste, and Treatment of Liquid Waste

The Company has made efforts to reduce and utilize hazardous and toxic (B3) waste, among others, by reducing waste at the source, recycling, or reusing where possible as an effort to reduce environmental impact.  Any waste generated by the company will be processed by the provisions of the applicable legislation.   In addition, the Company cooperates with third parties who have utilization permits to utilize B3 waste (co-processing). B3 waste inventory activities have been carried out referring to PP 101 of 2014 concerning B3 Waste Management.

Air Pollution Load Reduction Program

Phapros continues to strive to reduce emissions generated from main activities and other activities related to the company's activities.   Every piece of equipment that produces emissions is monitored regularly and strived to always meet applicable emission quality standards. The Company is always committed to reducing air pollution, both in the form of conventional air pollutants (SO2, NOx), and greenhouse gases (CO2) which are manifested in the policy written. The company has conducted an inventory of conventional gas emissions (dust, SO2, and NOx) and greenhouse gases.

All chimneys have met the technical requirements of the chimney and have been monitored regularly according to applicable regulations. Production processes that have the potential to produce dust/particles (mixing process, tablet printing) are equipped with dust collector equipment.  In addition, in the emission reduction program, the Company also utilizes Green Open Space covering an area of 1.35 Ha or 35 % of the Company's area, which is deliberately made to help maintain the microclimate, reduce the distribution of air emissions and increase carbon sequestration in the Company's territory.

Greenhouse Gas Emission Intensity

Phapros' emission mitigation includes CO2, CH4, and N2O emissions. The standards and methodologies used in calculating the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions are based on the amount of greenhouse gas emissions resulting from production activities per number of tons of production for one year.
