Phapros Cares for Floods in Demak

On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the TJSL Department of Phapros along with the Central Java Provincial Social Service visited the flood posts located on the border of Demak – Kudus regions.

The Head of Social Protection and Social Security from the Central Java Provincial Social Service, Didik Prawata, conveyed that the number of evacuees exceeded 30,000 households and sought refuge in 27 evacuation points provided by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos), local Red Cross (PMI), community organizations, and other volunteers. However, there were 35 households who chose to remain under the bridge near the main Tanggul Angin post. These evacuees refused to move to more suitable posts because they wanted to stay close to their flooded homes and monitor the situation directly when the water began to recede.

This year's floods in Demak are the most severe. Overflow from the Wulan River and Lusi River caused breaches in the coastal embankments. On this occasion, TJSL provided assistance in the form of medicines and vitamins such as Becefort, Livron B-Plex, Ambroxol, Hydrocortisone Acetate, and others to alleviate symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and colds.

In addition to medicines, there were also baby supplies, hygiene kits, instant noodles, and other daily necessities. This assistance was handed over at the Terminal Jati Kudus post, which would later be distributed to other posts that are still lacking. The Demak region and its surroundings still require a lot of assistance, especially in the aftermath of the flood. It is estimated that the flood conditions will continue for the next two weeks until the water recedes completely and the residents' homes are habitable again.
